This was the late 90's (over 20 years ago) and I was consolidating serial number lists by American collectors as I was networking with Jon Speed in Germany. I need to begin by correcting the ranges for the B series models. As noted in Mauser Archives there were still over 2500 first series guns sitting in inventory not sold in September 1934 months after the introduction of the first B series guns and the DSM. In 1933 as the action was being developed for the DSM, bad economies in Germany and abroad had resulted in production exceeding demand for the first series models. This prompts me to attempt to begin a discussion of the B series in which I will attempt to correct some previous misinformation for which I am responsible.
I have after over 40 years of collecting and studying Mauser 22 rifles finally acquired an example of the early ES340B with the grooved barrel.
